If this is a very large presentation, you may be bumping into one of PowerPoint's size limitations. A simple test for this is to break the presentation into 2 halves and try saving those as.pptx. If both save, it was the size that was a problem. If one of them does not save, there is a corrupt object in it. To find this corrupt object, continue to break any non-saving segment in half and resaving the parts. Eventually you will come down to hopefully just one slide that has the problem element. Once you identify the part causing the issue, return to your original presentation, delete that object and save as.pptx. I've read a report of someone creating a new blank presentation, then copying and pasting all the content from the older presentation, then they were able to save as.pptx. Might be worth a try.
